If you are reading this, it means you made it to 2020. I say a big congratulations to you because you were among the lucky ones. My wish is that you not only survive this year but get to crush and achieve those goals you have written down. That by the end of the year, you look back and your heart is filled with nothing but joy.
The realistic truth though is that, no matter how we want this year to be a year filled with lots of laughter and happy moments, there will be days when we would experience the downside of life, yikes.
Here is a list of 8 songs that you can always listen to on those bitter days. Those days when life is forcefully giving you gall to eat.
Music has the power to control emotions and I believe these songs will help get you out of that gloomy mood.
1. Life must go on by Quinn XCII
The songs talks about how even when our world is burning down, we still get that strength to carry on because life must go on. One thing we’ve got to remember is that, life won’t stop even when we’re having a bad day.
I discovered this song on the fateful day I was randomly on Instagram checking people’s pages out. I immediately downloaded it and the feeling was nothing but love. If you’ve listened to Jon Bellion’s music you may find a similarity in their style of music and voice. At one point in the song I doubted if it was Quinn or Jon.
2. OK by Mabel
This song is titled the anxiety anthem. It talks about how it’s OK not to be OK. How we are allowed to break. How having a bad day is normal and part of life. We don’t have to pretend that we’re OK when we’re not. We’re allowed to cry and pull our hair out if need be. Lol, please don’t do the latter.
In general, the song makes us know that it’s OK to wallow in our pain as long as we’ll pick ourselves up and try again.
Aside the beautiful lyrics of this song, the beat and the voice of Mabel, made it even more pleasing to listen to.
3. Learn to lose by Bakermat and Alex Clare
My favourite lyrics in this song is, “if you want to be a winner you got to learn to lose”.
This songs has so many lines that keeps you making that hmmm sound. That sound you make when something said hits you and you’re wowed at its deep meaning. That is how you’ll feel when listening to this song.
4. Bruised not broken by Matoma, MNEK and Kiana Ledé
What got me to give this song any attention was the video. The video is so unique and funny. It was after I had marvled in the amazingness of the video that I actually really listened to the lyrics of the song.
The title of the song already gives a clue to what the song is about. It talks about not letting negative things get to you. The song is more like saying words of affirmation, “I know I may hurt sometimes, I know I will be alright”, “sticks and stones may break my bones… but, I’ll get stronger on my own”, “even though I’m black and blue, I’ll put myself back together”.
5. Unstoppable by Sia
If I said bruised not broken was like saying words of affirmation, it has nothing on this song. This is the kind of song you sing while looking at yourself in the mirror on those days when your confidence is on zero.
The chorus says:
I’m a Porsche with no brakes
Yeah, I win every single game
I’m so powerful
I don’t need batteries to play
I’m so confident, yeah, I’m unstoppable today
Unstoppable today, unstoppable today
Unstoppable today, I’m unstoppable today
To me, the chorus of this song was the icing of it all.
6. Never give up by Sia
Another Sia song is making it to this list. This just shows that I love Sia’s song. If she’s not singing about love, she’s singing about being confident, being strong or being the greatest. Her vocals are also unique and one that’s hard to be mixed up with another. I also see Sia and I similar in a way. Sia is someone that is known mostly by her voice. She rarely puts her face out there. I’m just like that too. I also rarely put my face out there and just let my work do the talking. Although I’m trying to change that this year.
This songs talks about not giving up even when forces out there break you to your lowest point.
7. In my blood my Shawn Mendes
I’ve always being a fan of Shawn Mendes. He has powerful vocals and I vibe more with artists that have strong vocals. Although last year, I didn’t listen to much of his songs but he’s still a fave.
In my blood talks about how he wants to give up but somehow doesn’t because it’s not in his blood to give up.
8. Grateful by Spencer Sutherland
My random Instagram searches lead me to finding great songs. This is one of them again.
I’ve not watched the video of this song but I can already envision it to be something weird and crazy. When you listen to the song, you’ll get what I’m saying.
I like the style of this song. It sounds like how someone who’s high would sound. Thanks to movies for doing a good description of how people sound when they’re high.
The song talks about not being perfect, having a lot of things on your mind, not having money but overall still grateful.
I hope you download this songs and listen to them and that they give you that boost you need on your sad days.
