I’ve had the movie Parasite on my laptop for a while and everytime I tried watching it, I would get bored in the first two to three scenes and change the movie. Last week I sat my ass down to watch the movie again and I loved it. What changed?
Parasite is a Korean drama that has been recommended by a lot of people. They are always like, “have you watched the movie, parasite?”, “go and watch the movie, parasite”, “amazing storytelling”, blah blah blah.
The movie was directed by Bong Joon-ho, written by Bong Joon-ho with Han Jin-won and it stars some Korean actors which you should google for yourself if you are interested in knowing, thank you very much.
It is a thriller/comedy movie which centres on class discrimination. How the rich see themselves as high and mighty and how the poor get trampled on. Some might say what the Kim family did was due to greed but in my opinion, they were just hustlers trying to survive but, I would agree that they might have taken things too far.
What made me want to watch the movie in the first place was not because of my once in a while love for Korean movies but because this movie won so many awards and the curious cat in me wanted to see what made the movie so spectacular. Before last week, I was wondering why the movie made so much name but now I can see why.
As a writer, I would say the story was phenomenal. I didn’t like the way some things played out towards the end but overall I love the story and the ending, made so much sense because if it didn’t end the way it did and they allowed it to end the way we had thought it would, it probably would have fallen my hand. I’m so glad it didn’t.
Korean movies are always known to have a good picture quality and this movie was no exception. Most of the scenes where so pleasant to watch and this made me ponder on when nollywood movies would get to that stage but none the less, Nigerian movies are stepping up and I must give praise for that.
I guess what changed was me giving more attention to the movie while watching it again, I don’t know. But, whatever changed my perspective of the movie, I’m glad it did.
I rate this movie an 8.5/10 and highly recommend that you watch it.
