Rape: taking the man’s side?

Disclaimer: I in know way support rape. I am totally against it and I think those men who involve in rape should be sentenced to life imprisonment or probably stoned to death like Stephen in the Bible. OK, that was a bad comparison but, you get it.

So, if you haven’t read my post on Let’s talk about dressing you should. It has a significant role to play in this post.

For those of us that have read it, let’s give those who haven’t read it few minutes to read it, yeah?

(2 minutes later)

Before we go further, let’s look into the meaning of Rape.

Rape is a type of sexual assault usually involving sexual intercourse or other forms of sexual penetration carried out against a person without that person’s consent (Wikipedia).

Rape is something that leaves a long lasting scar on the life of the victim. It is not something you talk about with a smiling face because it is a very serious issue that needs to be treated seriously. I’m not here for that so let me go to straight to the point of why we’re gathered and not waste your precious time.

So, I hear things like the way a woman dresses doesn’t have anything to do with her being raped. As much as I want to agree to this and stand up for all the female humans of this planet, I put it to you that I don’t agree with that statement.

Just before you eat me raw, please read further. Thank you very much.

The way a woman dresses should not be a reason for her to be raped but unfortunately it is. In fact, I think it’s a big reason. Read what Bayo Akinloye had to say about rape.

“Rape is on the increase mainly because moral bankruptcy has hit its peak. Women are no longer ashamed of exposing their bodies in public. Even dresses which do not expose their bodies are sewn so tight that no one is left in doubt about the objective. It is the age of dress-to-kill. But women forget that many of them will fall victim of stray bullets.

Women who elect to cut their blouses low at the front and their skirts outrageously short above the thighs have deliberately entered into a contract with men who are sick upstairs. Women should be told in clear and unequivocal terms that indecent dressing constitutes sexual harassment,” (PUNCH)

The saying that you should dress the way you want to be addressed is a saying that every lady should always take note of when choosing their daily clothing. But unfortunately that saying has been swept under the carpet. Most ladies today wear some clothes that you wonder why they didn’t just go out in their birthday suit. Men are attracted to what they see and when you expose the parts of your body that supposed to be concealed, you attract the attention of men and some of those men might just end up being rapists.

There is no beauty in wearing clothes that expose private body parts. In fact I think it’s trash fashion and like I said in my post about dressing, you can be stylish and be fully covered. It commands more respect from people.

I know some people will say that even if a lady is fully clothed a man can still rape her if he wants to. Well, those type of men should be evacuated from this planet called earth. But seriously, if a man can rape a lady even while she is fully covered how much more when she is not. Think about that.

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, [which is] your reasonable service. (Romans 12:1)
